I was in a relationship from the middle of my first year of high school to the middle of what should have been my senior year, but was actually my first year of college I graduated high school a year early. Because of health issues throughout high school, I went to a home-bound like school, while my boyfriend at the time went to a regular public school. I tried to join him and my other classmates in 10th grade, but that idea lasted less than a semester because managing my health and keeping up with the demands of education in such a big school seemed next to impossible. But the Universe blessed us both with the same fabulous physical therapist. After our physical therapist knew me a few months, I guess he thought I was special enough to meet the young man who he had been working with since he was 3. I have always said health care providers become your first set of best friends and lead you to your other set, because I have been around them more in my 21 years than regular friends. The week before Thanksgiving of my freshman year of high school, our physical therapist gave me the email of this young man. I believe his hope was that the young man and I would become friends because we have things in common that most would never understand. The young man and I have a similar type of cerebral palsy a muscle and movement disability caused by brain damage and often joke that we are the same person in many ways. After a few emails, many text messages, hours-long phone and video calls, a movie and a holiday break the young man and I announced that we were in a relationship.

Unlike our first karaoke night back in October, the turnout was small; when we got to the club, we found out that it was just us and Anita, the organizer of the event. Maybe it was because the event was held on a Friday night and it was hard for many of the invitees to go to a club for drinks and singing almost right after work. Or maybe it was because another classmate had scheduled a disco dancing get-together in Doral that same night.
Maybe it was because my mom never treated me as if my CP was the sole factor that defined me as a child. So for a while, I was just a happy-go-lucky little tyke who just had issues with tying his shoes or stumbling and falling more than his playmates. I was even precocious about girls; in third grade I was gutsy enough to tell one of my classmates that I wanted to be her boyfriend. We ended up going together from third grade till I was in sixth grade. She was a year ahead of me, and since junior high what we now call middle school started in seventh grade, her departure for another school campus marked the end of our relationship.
She started noticing other boys and developed a crush on one of them. Then she broke up with me.

In my friendship and courtship with my partner, Billy, over the past decade, I learned love has no limits. Love has no boundaries when people have the ability to make their own decisions on how to live their lives and what they want out of it. Like any other person would. My visit to Rhode Island a few weeks ago rekindled a relationship years in the making.
It initially faltered due to pressure from society as well as pressure from outsiders looking in. Some people looked down at Billy as a person with many limitations, because of his cerebral palsy.

Some individuals will be able to continue working with accommodations such as an adjusted work schedule, assistive equipment, or frequent rest periods. The rate of depression is three to four times higher in people with disabilities such as CP. It appears to be related not so much to the severity of their disabilities, but to how well they cope with them.
Individuals with CP may use up to three to five times the amount of energy that able-bodied people use when they walk and move about. For example, the abnormal relationships between joint surfaces and excessive joint compression can lead to the early development of painful osteoarthritis and degenerative arthritis. Individuals with CP also may have limited strength and restricted patterns of movement, which puts them at risk for overuse syndromes and nerve entrapments.
PAIN Individuals with CP may have pain that can be acute or chronic, and is experienced most commonly in the hips, knees, ankles, and the upper and lower back. Individuals with spastic CP may have an increased number of painful sites and worse pain than those with other types of cerebral palsy. Treatments include spasticity management aimed at correcting skeletal and muscle abnormalities.

Hey All, I would like to tell Getsteal that before I found Redgoddess33 I had many of the same problems with the dating thing it seemed that women would talk to me about just about anything but the minute I told them I had CP it would end. No more talking to me about anything after all who wants to get to know a person who walks with a limp it might make them look like a freak to be seen with me.
Maybe that’s what they thought, I really feel that most women even though they won’t tell you this are looking for someone they think can protect them, and when they think of someone with a disablity they don’t think it’s possible. Well, let me tell you if someone hurt my wife or our girls they would be in a world of hurt to say the least!! In the dating world I had met a lot of “women” who had no problem using me because I am a nice guy not because they loved me or cared about me they just wanted to use me beause they wanted what ever they wanted it was never me not even when it came to my Ex-wife she was just looking for a way out of a bad way in life.
I say this Getsteal to tell you don’t get out there and get used and confuse that with the other person really loving you. It took me a very bad marriage to see the differance. Anyway, once in a life time you find that right person who will love you no matter what, and will get to know you and let you love them with all your heart. Since I was young I have known what I wanted in a wife and through the years I learned and figured out just who that person was and was like, and now I have found all of those things in one person RedGoddess You will Find that soul-mate the person you are to be with and will love you for all that you are and will be even find you and everything about you sexy and adorable and you will do the same with them and both of you will love each other with all of everthing you are.
I promise this too will happen for you. Keep looking she’s right there. Last edited by gacatmandu; at

She started noticing other boys and developed a crush on one of them. Then she broke up with me. This breakup made me lose much of my self-confidence, and since by now I was in regular classes instead of in Special Ed ones I was surrounded by attractive girls who were not disabled. I had crushes on many of them, but when I hit puberty or puberty hit me , I became too self-conscious about my CP. After a particularly crushing rejection from a blonde cheerleader in ninth grade, I retreated into my shell, so to speak, and gave up on the dating scene.
I liked many girls in high school and college, but I was so sure that my CP was a turn-off that I kept my feelings tightly bottled up.
